Up and Coming Nut
Category: Let's Talk About My Nuts - Written by Matthew
Hello! I wanted to introduce myself since I will be writing on this blog. My name is Matthew. Some people call me Junior, even though I'm not a Junior (long story), only sharing the same first name as my father.
My grandparents started Try My Nuts back in 1999 with a 600 sq.ft. store in Corolla that seemed small even to me at the time, being only five to six years old. Now, thirteen and a half years later, we're still here and the business still runs deep in our blood. My grandparents always told me that they wanted to pass down the family business and keep it in the family for generations to come. Thanks to all of our wonderful customers out there, that is still happening. You all brought in family and friends to share the Try My Nuts experience with and have helped keep us alive even through the most recent economic down turn; thank you very much for that.
Anyways, I've been working in the family business since the age of 5 when I loved to, and still do, visit the stores in the Outer Banks with my Dad. It felt so cool being able to walk behind the counter and know that this belonged to us. I loved to help my Uncle Todd and Aunt Sharlene bag as they rung up the orders on the register (if I was really lucky they would even let me ring up the customers when we were slow). I would price stock as it came in and stock the shelves, sample product to the customers; as I learned early on that the customer is the most important person to walk through our doors. I did anything I could to be a part of the business and I still do to this day. From working the floor at our Fredericksburg store, to answering your phone calls, to working on our brand new site, and even helping open new stores. Keeping the family business alive hasn't always been easy for anyone, but it means the world to me and my family that we are still here after 13 years.
